I don't know what to do with myself. I'm used to being restricted to small tweets. Now I feel like I need to make more thoughtful toots. I feel like this might be a common problem, haha.
@pdtodd And you told me that you were not on social media... Did you lie to me
@hack13 well, this social media doesn't seem to be stuffed with garbage. Also that there are furry controlled places on here like there is with furry telegram groups.
@pdtodd Huzzah! why do you think I like this place more?
@hack13 yeah. I'm really picky with my media. Weird ads, creepy corporate stuff, and bad design are all huge turn offs for me. On another note, is there any benefit to making accounts on more than one instance? I'm noticing that there are a lot of furry ones.
@pdtodd nope, as you can message and chat with people on multiple different instances. For example I am friends with people on snouts.online blimps.xyz vulpine.club etc all from here <3 one account and keep up with everyone
@hack13 Yay plugs XD
@ceralor Plugs that you can use to fill with air ;3
@pdtodd It's relative! I'm also on an instance with a 5000 character limit. I can use that to say everything I want to say on a subject, exhaustively, on a single post. Going back down to only 500 now seems limiting.
@Mycroft woah! That's really awesome. I had no idea that people are free to set different instances to such extremely different settings.
@pdtodd It's part of the unstable glitch.social branch of Mastodon code, something beyond the stable base instance hosting.
@Mycroft ohh, so that means the instance I'm on might get the option for longer posts in the future? I'm so hyped!
@pdtodd Probably not. It's not a future in-development codebase, it's a maintained fork.
@Mycroft that's still really awesome that you can fork the server and still have it be compatible with such modifications. I'll stick with the standard, though. :3
@pdtodd Oh, it's all based on open protocols. There's at least four different software platforms that use what Mastodon uses under the hood in order to communicate with each other. Even though Mastodon is only a couple years old, the foundation for it started over ten years ago with the OStatus microblogging protocol.
@Mycroft that is really awesome! I love it when new platforms use tried and true tools for it's foundation. Makes me feel like what I'm using is more solid. :3
