To anyone who needs to hear it:

"passing" is a beauty standard in disguise.

And like with all beauty standards - if it empowers you and it's cool for you, then go for it! It's awesome!

Quietly appreciating it in others is also fine.

What is not fine is to force it on others, or to judge others based on it.

Never, EVER consider yourself at fault if you either can't do it or just don't want to. It's optional.

Also b. standards, any kind, are just ONE version of beauty.

And I absolutely want to look pretty, even if I don't necessarily want to achieve it via passing.

So I get it. I get that dysphoria can very much take the form of internalised expectations regarding attractiveness.

But which of those standards I choose to try for is *my* choice, based on *my* needs and aesthetics (and my issues, LOL) and any other choice would've been just as good and acceptable and - hate this word - valid.

@oddtail I think about this a lot, and I'm glad to see it worded so well!

I think some of it comes from the requirement to "pass" in order to get medical support to transition (which is ridiculous!). It filters through to the community at large - maintaining the standard where it isn't required.

Our standards of "feminine" and "masculine" clothing even have changed over time, so forcing anyone into them is just forcing them into a trend.

Gender is not a linear progression!
