's swap file recovery system just works so, so well. I wish every other editor worked like that!

(Although I'm not entirely sure I like it putting the swap files in the same directory, but you can change that. I've just never bothered.)

One thing I like about Vim's swap files is it will tell you whether or not it was modified when Vim crashed, and it will also tell you whether the actual file is newer than the swap file. (And it can work as a "hey, you're editing the same file twice" warning, too.)

How is ' crash recovery system? Does it do things like that?

@IceWolf As far as I know, Emacs works identically. I get warnings if I'm attempting to "steal" a file, and I get auto-saves if my computer shut down or Emacs crashed
